The main idea of this poem is about losing someone or something we love and often figuring out how to grow up. It is about a young man who is at a young age. Interestingly he is realizing what it is to experience what it is like to encounter sadness after the death of his beloved person Metaphorically this beloved person was compared with the lost ball pen.
